About Us!

Hi! I am Zeeble from the planet Frudomp. I landed here to tell you about the origins of the Intergalatic Conspiracy of Childcare Collectives, or ICCC. For many years, there were childcare collectives scattered across the galaxy.* Through electronic communication we realized we were doing similar work in different places. Even though we had never met, we were all providing childcare with local social justice organizations as a way to support families and parents’ participation. We thought we could be stronger if we came together to share ideas and practices. In 2010 the US Social Forum was happening in Detroit on planet Earth and many collective members were planning to attend - this seemed like the perfect place to meet up! We met up at the forum and decided to form the ICCC. We also offered a workshop at the social forum for other creatures interested in starting childcare collectives. We shared contact info and started a listserv to stay in touch and share resources. The next summer we reconvened in Detroit for the Allied Media Conference, where we facilitated a magical track of workshops just for kids. We have continued to do this every year since, also meeting up for special ICCC gatherings before the AMC. In 2013 we decided to make a website to share our work and resources with others to help build the conspiracy! Welcome!

*Note: while the ICCC is intergalactic in our aspirations and imaginations, at this time we are all based in North America on planet Earth.
